Haul Livestock and Grain

What you need to haul livestock or grain if you never cross state lines (intrastate):

Is your vehicle…

Over 10,000 lbs.
Over 55,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at county level
  • U.S. DOT-NE number
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • pay federal heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT)

If you occasionally get a load that requires crossing the state line, we can help you with the trip permit you need for the state you’re entering.

What you need to haul livestock or grain across state lines (interstate):

Is your vehicle over …

Over 10,000 lbs.
Over 55,000 lbs.
  • vehicle registered at county level if its GVW is between 10,000 and 26,000 pounds
  • vehicle registered at state level in International Registration Plan (IRP) if it’s more than 26,000 pounds
  • International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) permit and decals for vehicle over 26,000 pounds
  • a completed MCS-150 and U.S. DOT number
  • Nebraska sales tax exemption #05
  • pay federal heavy vehicle use tax (HVUT)

You must have the HVUT receipt to register your vehicle at either the county or state level. We can help you complete your HVUT Form 2290 tax return. We can usually get the stamped HVUT receipt in one business day or less. We can also help you complete the MCS-150/DOT number application and your application for sales tax exemption.
